Surfer and model Lucie Donlan is famous for her time on the show Love Island and has always been associated with sun, sea and all things beachy. With so many people opting to chop their locks this year there has been a less beachy inspiration. Lucie is here to change this! She has recently adopted some gorgeous mermaid waves. I love them so much and there is so much volume and texture. Today I want to share with you how you can achieve this gorgeous style and slay it all day long. So, keep reading this step-by-step tutorial and #wearcliphair.
Step number 1: Preparation
I know, I know, I am always going on about preparation but it is key! This style is definitely best with second-day hair. The reason is that second-day hair is often at its fluffiest and therefore your natural oils start taking over the root area again. Thoroughly brush your hair so it is knot-free then add a full set of your Cliphair hair extensions. The beauty of Lucie’s look is how long and voluminous her hair is, so I would say this is a must. Once they are blended add a spray that is a curl holding spray. If you don’t own one of these dilute a little hairspray with some water and spritz it on your hair.
Step number 2: Get your curls
As you all know, you can’t have waves without curls. If you have used the spray I mentioned or mouse your hair may be a bit damp you are also going to add a heat protecting serum which will increase this dampness but is vital for your hair’s health. Put your hair dryer on cool and use your paddles brush to evenly distribute and dry the product on your hair. Divide your hair into three large rows. Clip the top rows out of the way, for now, you will start to curl the bottom section. Curl your hair away from your face, to get the small waves that mermaid waves are known to make sure you use the slimmest part of the curler. Hold each curl in your hand until it cools. Continue this for the rest of your hair.
Step number 3: Make the mermaid
Now you have gorgeous curly locks, it is time to turn them into mermaid waves. This is great fun and I like to put on Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake it off’ on. Spritz your hair with texture spray if you want then flip your hair forward. Shake your hair around as you dance and run your fingers through your curls to break them up and turn them into waves. You can pinch the bottom and lightly finger tease your hair lightly to get your beachy ‘undone’ look. Add some hairspray to keep it in place all day and you are done!
