Fishtail braids are amazing. They are so functional, last hours and look amazing. I love going from a coffee with a friend to the gym and know that I will continue to have a style that stays in place, doesn’t show the top of my hair extensions and looks incredible. It has been one of my favourite braids to play with this year because of how versatile it is so today I am going to share with you two of my hottest fishtail braid looks. If you love fishtails and want something to look fab this new year’s eve, keep reading.
The Fishtail Bun
Start by gathering some hair at the top of your crown and lightly backcomb your hair at its roots. Create a side parting and clip in your hair extensions. sweep your hair over your shoulder on the deeper side and divide it into two. Take a small section from the right half and place it inside the left section repeat on the other side. Keep going all the way to the ends and secure with a clear hair tie. Tug each part so that they look lovely and full. Fold your braid upwards and tuck the ends under so that it is facing the top of the braid. To make your hair a rounder bun wind it tighter but l loved it lying in a horizontal loop. Pin your braid into place, you may need to use a few pins so that it holds if you have thick hair and spray with hairspray.
Side Braid
This is something that most of us have done but I am adding a few nice twists. Start by separating the hair behind your ears from the hair in front. Tie the front section out of the way and brush the back so it is nice and smooth. Now divide your back section into two to start your fishtail braid. It is the same process as the previous style of taking a small section from the right half and place it inside the left section repeat on the other side. When you have created about 5 crosses then start to angle your braid over your shoulder. I always do it over my right shoulder, I find it easier to create being right handed but it is totally up to you. Tie the ends with a clear hair tie and tug on the sections so it looks full and lovely. Create a side parting in your front section and curl the lower third of your hair. Backcomb the roots and tuck the curls underneath the top of your braid. If your curls won’t reach to the braid then pin them in place before your spray with hairspray.
Whether you want something to wear for a fancy occasion or to an everyday event fishtails can handle most things. I am not a big fan of accessories but if you are they look incredible with gems, glitter or even wrapped around a headband so why not try it this NYE?
