How to Wake Up With Perfect Hair

If you’re used to gazing wistfully at pictures of Karlie Kloss, looking fine and flawless for a 6am gym session, you’ll be pleased to know that the age of the ‘bed head’ is over. And, we’re talking about the kind of bed head that scares children and makes your mirror sad, rather than that sultry Taylor Swift-esque version. Yes, that’s right, there are some very clever ways to convince your tresses to wake up fresh and fierce, every single morning.

Imagine being able to spend five minutes in the bathroom, instead of half an hour. It would leave you time for a leisurely breakfast, a calmer commute to work, and hopefully, a bigger grin too. If you’re a curly girl, it’s time to rejoice, because these styling tips are particularly effective at keeping bouncy hair under control. You’ll need high quality products though, so get down to the supermarket tonight!

And, keep reading for our tips and tricks on how to wake up with flawless hair, every day of the week.

Digging On Those Textured Waves

For undulating textured waves, apply a texturising spray in the evening. Massage it into damp (not soaking wet) locks and then gather your hair into a French braid. This will hold it all neat and in place while you sleep. Plus, when you get up and untie the braid, you’ll be left with a wonderfully wavy, almost crimped pattern. Throughout the morning, the impressions will soften into romantic, gentle curls.

If you prefer bigger, bolder curls, comb and part your hair first. Then, apply an anti-frizz serum or solution. It’s best to wear your hair extensions to bed as well, if you want to be able to get up and go quickly in the morning. Just make sure that you tie them up and away from your face, because they’ll get tangled otherwise. For tighter curls, divide hair into four sections and twist each into a tight bun. Wear them while you sleep, even though they look pretty silly.

Preparing for a Perfect Morning

The best way to roll out of bed looking gorgeous is to do most of the styling before you go to bed. So, if you usually wash and condition your locks every other evening, do this as you usually would, but then add some extra steps to your routine. The only downside to prepping and styling before bed is that, obviously, lying down can mess with its body and volume.

However, the good news is that running just a little volume spray through the lengths, before you sleep, is an effective way to keep all of that bounce locked in. Once you’ve massaged it in, brush your hair out until it is soft and springy. Then, tie it up, if you need to, and then head off for a peaceful sleep. When you wake, only a few touch ups will be necessary.

Last Minute Styling Tips

In the morning, if you haven’t had a chance to wash your hair or extensions, you can cheat your way to style perfection with a generous spritz of dry shampoo. It absorbs excess oil and leaves tresses smelling and feeling much fresher. Do remember that it is worth spending a little more on a high quality product; some of the cheaper dry shampoos leave white streaks throughout the lengths.

The best way to deal with those unruly cowlicks is to wet them from root to tip. Then, use a fine toothed comb or your fingers to restyle them. If you add a tiny little bit of gel or hairspray, they’ll stay in place all day. If all else fails, it is time to revisit a faithful friend – the classic pony is absolutely ideal for second day hair and busy mornings when styling time is limited.
