#healthyhair How to Maintain Healthy Hair

For girls, a good hair day can change everything. It puts a smile on the face, raises the spirits, and gives you bags of extra confidence. When your hair looks great, you feel like you can do anything. So, it’s important to keep it in tip top condition; whether that means treating it with a deep conditioner, using a heat protective spray, or taking your extensions out for washing.

While all ladies are different and every head of hair is unique, there are plenty of things that you can do to keep yours looking shiny and healthy at all times. If you’re a fan of clip in hair extensions, do remember that rigid combs and brushes can damage the follicles. Where possible, it’s best to remove knots and tangles gently with the fingertips.

This guide to maintaining natural, healthy hair will help you look your best, every single day of the week.

Condition Regularly

Both natural hair and hair extensions need to be washed and conditioned on a regular basis. However, the general consensus now is that every day is too much; washing so often will strip your locks of essential oils. For most girls, once or twice a week is more than enough. If you have overly oily hair, use a shampoo that can remove the excess oil without also stripping the ends of good stuff. The quickest and easiest way to wash extensions is to completely remove them, lay them out in a sink, and apply shampoo and conditioner directly to the hair.

Limit Exposure to Heat

This can be a really tough one, especially for curly girls, but heat based styling wreaks havoc with the health of hair. If you can, try not to straighten your tresses every single day of the week. Try to embrace your natural waves as often as you can. After all, Hollywood celebs like Mila Kunis and Charlize Theron pay good money just for the illusion of curly hair! If in need of that extra length, it’s a good idea to buy clip in extensions that match the natural style of your hair, so that you only have to curl or straighten them as and when needed.

Provide Sun Protection

It’s a common misconception to think that you have to stay out of the sun while wearing hair extensions. In fact, high quality extensions are pretty robust and can take a reasonable amount of sun exposure. It is, however, a good idea to spritz natural hair and extensions with a heat protective spray before heading off to the beach or spending long periods outdoors in the summer. If you’re lucky enough to be heading off on holiday soon, make sure to tie them up and out of the way before diving into the pool.

Give It Some Body

If you want to know how to introduce some bounce and body to your hair, listen up: You need some texturising spray and your own two hands; that’s it. Flip your hair upside down – yes, this will feel weird – and cover freshly washed roots with the spray. Now, take your fingertips and gently massage the liquid into the roots. Then, flip your hair back in the right direction, give your tresses a tousle, and shake them out. You should be left with wavy, bouncy hair that is textured without being heavy or oily. In other words, perfect hair for a big party or a lunch date.
