So Autumn is here, and the temperature is dropping – but we still want to look hot!
The dry, cold weather means we have to crank up our heating – did you know this can affect your hair? You might notice your hair becoming a little more brittle and static with flyaway strands.
Autumn is a great time to step up your haircare routine and make sure you’re giving your hair all the attention it deserves to avoid damage and frizz. We’ve compiled a blog with tips and products we’re loving to get your through the chillier seasons.
Shampoo and Conditioner
It’s important to use a good quality shampoo and conditioner tips of how your hair can be looked after.
- After a trip to the hairdressers compared to when you wash it yourself at home ever notice how amazingly soft your hair feels? Maybe a blow-dry once in a blue moon.
- Salons high quality products used in-salon, and is something you can easily achieve at home with cheaper brands in your local stores
- Saving money so can get the autumn hair desired, we advise some great brands in your local beauty shops (products)
- Once a week try a deep conditioning treatment to give your hair a real boost.
- If you’re that spontaneous at home create a hair mask. We have a Halloween mask as its creeping up.
Gather all your hair on top of your head and wrap clingfilm around the top of your hair, as you would a towel or turban. If you can, sleep with this on (put a towel over your pillow), or if not, blast it with a hairdryer. The heat will open your hair cuticles and allow the conditioner to penetrate your hair and give you maximum nourishment. You’ll be amazed when you wash the conditioner off, at how soft and silky your hair is!
Leave-In Conditioners and Serums
We’re BIG fans of leave in conditioners and serums here, for use on both your own hair and extensions. If you want really glossy gorgeous hair, simple shampooing and conditioning isn’t enough. It’s essential to stock up on a good leave-in product to protect your hair from damage and to get it looking it’s absolute best. We have quite a few favourites, and they range in prices – but most leave in products will do a good job at making your hair more manageable.
We ADORE Moroccanoil. This little gem smells absolutely gorgeous and works a real treat on your hair. It’s pricey (around £25.00 a bottle) but is worth every penny as a little goes a long way! You only need a small drop of this wonder juice and your hair will be totally transformed. Make sure not to use TOO much, as you could end up with greasy hair. Simply brush through your wet hair (a Tangle Teezer brush is great for removing knots without causing any damage) and evenly apply the oil to your hair, concentrating particularly on the tips. Go ahead and style your hair, and enjoy the gorgeous aroma! Moroccanoil is claimed to speed up drying time, which is always a bonus.
Redken is another great brand renowned for it’s quality products. If you’re having a real hair mare, such as overbleached locks or particularly damaged hair – Redken do an amazing extreme conditioning range, which is well worth the hefty price tags. For those of you just looking to get your hair in better condition, and give it a little more TLC during the cold season, we LOVE Redken’s Smooth Down Detangling Cream. This comes in a really big container so will last you ages, and the cream is a really gorgeous thick consistency – it feels luxurious, like you’re giving your hair a real pamper and treat. You apply this cream in the same way as Moroccanoil – after showering and before blowdrying. Again, it makes your hair feel soft, smooth and much more manageable! A must have.
For those of you who like the super sleek poker straight look, it’s essential your hair is in perfect condition (or at least appears to be!). The perfect product for achieving this is Aveda Smooth Infusion. This is a gel-like formula, also applied after washing hair, which eliminates frizz and makes your hair gorgeously silky – with a heavenly scent!
Finishing Products
Often forgotten, one of the most important ingredients to amazing looking hair are the finishing touches – we’re thinking shine sprays, texturizing powders, hairspray and finishing serum.
Mark Hill Defrizz-ilicious Bedazzled Anti Humidity shine spray is a great product (ignoring the ridiculously long name!) and isn’t too pricey at £5.99. A quick spritz of the gorgeous smelling spray on the lengths of your hair (this is fine for your own hair and your extensions) will ensure they stay tangle free all night, and have a pretty, natural looking glossy glisten to them. This product adds the finishing touch and makes your hair look really groomed and cared for – so all your previous work won’t go to waste!
We love VO5’s Got2B Texturizing Powder so much! This nifty product costs only a few pounds and takes only a few seconds to work it’s magic. Simply sprinkle it into the roots of your hair, and work the product in using your fingers. Tease your hair and you’ll notice the amazing volume in seconds!
If you prefer to finish off your look with a serum for a super sleek look, instead of a spray – you can’t go wrong with John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Serum. Best of all, this product is multi purpose and can be used on wet or dry hair with fabulous results. If you’re using this on dry hair to give you a shiny finish, don’t forget to avoid your roots and concentrate on the tips of your hair – you don’t want to ruin all your hard work by making your hair look greasy!
